Pushing Pedals, Cranking Dollars

Hip hip hooray to all the Bike and Build 2011 riders for completing their summer tours! Their mission: Through service-oriented cycling trips, Bike & Build benefits affordable housing and empowers young adults for a lifetime of service and civic engagement. Their work: Bike and Build raises funds for affordable housing projects, garners media and community attention for the affordable housing cause, and fosters leadership and lifelong philanthropic service in their participants.

So why are we mentioning them right now? Community Rebuilds just received a donation of $13,663 from them to support our 2012 student intern program! That’s what we call pushing pedals and cranking dollars!

We had the pleasure of hosting the Providence to California riders this past summer for 3 days in Moab, which included a day of service at our build site. Check out the press from our friends at the Times Independent here.

The money we received is a combination of an organizational grant as well as a handful of ‘rider grants’. In 2011 each rider was able to choose 1 organization to make a $500 unrestricted donation to. The riders that picked Community Rebuilds are :

Rebecca Cremer, William Gallmeyer, Megan Healy, Yi Boe Huynh, and Katherine Tong

Thank you guys! And, thank you Bike and Build!

Your gift is more than money in the bank…it is the voice of young, emerging professionals saying that we are doing the right thing.
